Rwanda’s tennis top seed Dieudonne Habiyambere hopes he can put on a good showing at the upcoming All African Games set for September 4-19 in Congo-Brazzaville.
Rwanda will be represented by four players including, Habiyambere and second seed Olivier Havugima in the men’s category as well as Megane Ingabire (1) and Gisele Umumararungu (2) in the women’s.
Habiyambere told this paper last week that his dream is to win a continental medal for the first time in his career.
"It’s my dream to win a continental medal and I want to prove it this time around at the All Africa Games, I am training hard with the team but I also do individual training three times a week to improve my capability and give myself a chance,” said Habiyambere.
The 30-year old will be playing at his second All Africa Games following his debut four years ago in Maputo, Mozambique where he didn’t go past the preliminary stage. The team is currently under intensive preparations at Petit Stade tennis courts in Remera.
Meanwhile, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) development officer for the East African region, Thierry Ntwari, who is based in Bujumbura, paid a courtesy visit to the tennis team training camp last week and gave them tips.
At the All Africa Games, Rwanda will be represented in eight sports disciplines including; fencing, volleyball, beach volleyball, karate, cycling, tennis, NPC, athletics and Taekwondo.
