Kudos to the City of Kigali for a great innovation in declaring car-free zones around the city in accordance with the master plan!
As Dr Alphonse Nkurunziza, the City Engineer, very rightly remarked, this is being done to "de-congest the area for businesses around”.
Every busy city, including the spotlessly clean City of Kigali, does face traffic problems and this positive move, towards green transport areas and reducing immensely the pollution caused by cars in the central business district, will reap great benefits as time goes by.
For sure, initially there will be some measure of inconvenience faced by businessmen and others alike.
However, I do believe that the Mayor and his team have weighed all the pros and cons and in retrospect, one and all would realise that this move was meant to benefit both businessmen and visitors to this great City of Kigali alike.
