Police, APR to faceoff in Agaciro Development Fund tournament

Local giants Police FC and APR will face off in the last Group A fixture of the Agaciro Development Fund tournament this afternoon at Kicukiro Stadium.

Local giants Police FC and APR will face off in the last Group A fixture of the Agaciro Development Fund tournament this afternoon at Kicukiro Stadium.

Andre Cassa Mbungo’s side beat Bugesera on Saturday 1-0 thanks to a lone goal by left back Mwemere Ngirinshuti while APR defeated Bugesera 1-0 at Nyamata with a solo goal by Farouk Ruhinda.

Mbungo said, "We always know the tie between APR and Police is tough. We are going for a win because it is knockout stages. We are ready for the match. We are using these games to prepare for the league and our purpose is to win Agaciro. We know what Agaciro means for us.”

This is the second time both sides are meeting in the knockout stages in a space of a month after Police eliminated APR on the away goals’ rule after a goalless draw in their semi-final second leg after the first leg ended 1-1 in the Peace Cup. Police went on to win the Peace Cup trophy after beating Rayon Sports 1-0.

APR assistant coach Vincent Mashami said, "It’s going to be a tough match but we want to win, that’s our target. It is important to win this game because we need to prepare our team ahead of the next season.”

On Monday, in the southern and western regions, respectively,  Amagaju lost to Rayon Sports 0-2 in Nyamagabe as Ugandan striker Davis Kasirye scored both goals. Rayon Sports will meet Mukura in quarterfinals at Muhanga Stadium today.

In the North - Western region, Musanze defeated Marines 2-1 in the second leg and Musanze will face Etincelles after winning 4-3 on aggregate.

Second division side Etincelles proceeded to the quarterfinals after beating Gicumbi 1-0 in the second leg winning 3-2 on aggregate. In Group B, Sunrise will meet AS Kigali after eliminating SC Kiyovu and Rwamagana respectively.

Eric Nshimiyimana’s side drew with Rwamagana 1-1 in the second leg but AS Kigali proceeded in the quarters on 3-1 aggregate.

Sunrise qualified for the quarterfinals after drawing 0-0 in the second leg in Rwamagana against Kiyovu but Jimmy Mulisa’s side reached the quarters with an away goal after drawing 1-1 in the first leg.
