This year’s East African Post-Primary (FEASSSA) Games kick-off today and will run up to August 24 in Huye and Gisagara districts, South Province.

The 14th edition of the inter-schools games will begin with a football match in the boys’ category pitting Rwanda’s Muhanga Technical School and eight-time reigning champions, Saint Mary’s Kitende of Uganda, this afternoon at the UR-College of Art and Social Sciences stadium.

The eight-day competitions will be preceded by the official opening ceremonies that will include a parade by all delegations and speeches by various head of delegations and officials.

By the time of going to press, teams from Uganda, Burundi and Kenya as well as part of Tanzania’s delegation had already arrived.

According to the Rwanda School Sports’ Federation (RSSF) technical director, Aaron Rurangirwa, the South Sudan delegation is expected to arrive on Monday morning.

"Only the South Sudan delegation and a part of Tanzania’s are yet to arrive, but on Monday all teams will be around. We have organized these competitions for nearly a year, everything is perfectly in order,” Rurangirwa told Sunday Sport yesterday.

"Since we are the hosts, we also hope our teams will perform well and win as many titles as possible”.

Teams will compete in 12 different sports disciplines namely; football, volleyball, basketball, handball, netball, rugby, athletics, swimming, badminton, hockey, tennis and table tennis.

The games are expected to attract a total of 203 teams with over 3000 athletes. Hosts Rwanda is fielding 42 teams in all but two disciplines—hockey and badminton.
