The 2015 Primus GumaGuma Super Star will be crowned today during the grand finale at the field next to the stadium (Ferwafa pitch) next to the Heroes mausoleum in Remera. Expectations among music fans are high with each hoping that their favourite singer will emerge the winner.
The five-month long music competition is Rwanda’s largest music event. Ten finalists will compete before an expected mammoth crowd but only one will walk away with the Rwf 24m top prize, among other benefits.
The previous editions hosted international guest singers like Sean Kingston and Jason Derulo in 2011 and 2012 respectively. But for the third time in row, there won’t be an international artiste.
Joseph "Boubou” Mushyoma, the chairman of East Africa Promoters, the company that works with Bralirwa under its premium brand Primus told The New Times that they have been working around the clock to ensure that the finale is as smooth as possible.
"The whole setup including the stage is complete. What we will do on Friday evening and Saturday is to sound check with all the musicians and the band so that there are no glitches at all on the finale,” he said.
VIP Tickets will be sold at the entrance of the stadium at 5000RWF from 1pm tomorrow and the gates will open at 2pm for general entrance. The first artiste will be expected to appear on stage at 7:00PM.
Sponsored by Bralirwa, this is the fifth edition of the annual competition. No female has ever won the hotly contested prize. Previous winners include Tom Close, King James, Riderman and Jay Polly. So could this year’s winner be a female?
Francine Umutoni, the brand manager of Bralirwa’s Primus said that everyone can be a winner because unlike previous contests, this year is exceptional.
"It will be an open race till judges announce the winner. All the ten contestants have a chance to win because unlike before, we didn’t have eliminations this year,” she says.
The 10 contestants up for the top prize are Knowless, Bulldog, Dream Boys, Bruce Melodie, Active, Paccy, Jules Sentore, TNP, Eric Senderi and Rafiki.
