Former Rayon Sports head coach Didier Gomes da Rosa has admitted that he would be interested to return to the Nyanza-based team but on condition that the club comes up with a clear long-term project.
The French-born tactician has never hid his ‘love’ for Rwandan football, specifically Rayon Sports and has consistently expressed his interest to come back to the team he loves to refer to as Gikundiro.
"Maybe if the discussion with the board goes well, I will come back to coach Rayon Sports. Really, I want to coach this team and I fell in love with Gikundiro but for now the project has to be strong and serious. If that is the case, I’ll be back,” he told Times Sport in an email.
Gomes, who led Rayon Sports to the 2011/13 league title, their first in nearly nine years, was responding to recent reports linking him with a return to the Nyanza-based club for a second spell.
"You (journalist) and everybody know very well I love Rwanda and Rayon Sports and my dream is to do something good in this country that is to win trophies with them (again) but nothing has been agreed and if we fail to agree, I will continue with my current job with Coton Sport,” he added.
The 46-year-old revealed that, "I have talked with Rayon Sports leaders. They know my ambitions and my targets, but at the moment I do not know if they think I am the best candidate. We will have to wait and see.”
However, the newly elected Rayon Sports president, Denis Gacinya, has neither denied nor confirmed reports that the Blues want to bring back Gomes.
Gomes resigned as Rayon Sports coach in January 2014 following delays in paying his salary for three months which had accumulated to US$9000 [approximately Rwf6.1m) and joined Cameroonian side Coton Sport de Garoua.
Rayon Sports, currently are without with a head coach following the expiry of Jean Baptiste Kayiranga’s contract. The club had a disappointing campaign last season, finishing fifth in the league, behind newly promoted Sunrise FC, who finished in fourth place and have lost a host of key senior players.
