Rwanda’s number two Olivier Havugimana and Seed three Mathieu Uwizeyimana face-off in the first semi-final of the Umubano Hotel Tennis Open this morning seeking for a place in Saturday’s final.
In the quarter-finals, Havugimana saw off number eight Janvier Mugwaneza in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday while Uwizeyimana came from a set down to defeat Burundi’s Saidi Nkurunziza in three sets 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
In another semi-final, 16-year old Ernest Habiyambere (5) will be up against fourth seed Hamiss Gatete.
Habiyambere knocked out Mubarak Harerimana in quarter-finals on Wednesday while Gatete eliminated Emmanuel Bimenyimana.
In women’s semi-finals, top seed Meganne Ingabire, who beat Olive Tuyishime (5) in quarters; face Chantal Mutuyimana (4). Rwanda’s number two Gisele Umumararungu takes on Phiridaus Cyiza (3)—all matches will be played at Umubano Hotel clay courts.
In the boys’ under-14 category, number one Joseph Kiza faces number three Bertin Karenzi while Emmanuel Ishimwe (4) battles it out with Joshua Muhire (5).
