NYAGATARE — The beginning of the rainy season has enabled farmers in Nyagatare to resume planting crops after a long dry spell.
Maize, beans and other seasonal crops are among the crops being planted. The farmers had earlier been advised by officials of the Rwanda Agriculture Development Authority (RADA) to prepare their gardens ahead of rainy season.
Farmers in Karangazi Sector who talked to The New Times last week sounded optimistic that they would harvest high yields. Andrew Nkwaya, a banana cultivator said, "I am sure the RADA initiative has helped every one of us get through the difficult time.”
The farmers have also promised to ensure that they maximize their produce.
"It is our role to exploit all government measures already in place to have them work for us to devise a series of farming successes,” said another farmer, Sam Ndemezo.
