If the results of the just ended Prinsloo Nakuru Sevens tournament are anything to go by, then Remera Buffaloes have a genuine chance to make an impression in next month’s Hima-Mak 10s in Kampala, Uganda.

The national league champions, who were only making their debut, set the two-day show piece alight with some gripping piece of rugby.

Despite losing their opening pool B fixture against Kenya’s Impala 45-0 on Friday, the Rwandan champions bounced back with successive wins against Daystar University 26-0 and Africa Nazarene University 19-7 to storm into Saturday’s quarter finals as one of the best qualifiers.

In the quarter finals, Buffaloes beat Kenya’s Kabarak University 15-0 before going down to Jommo Kenyatta University (JKUAT) 26-7 in the semi-finals.

Fresh from leading the club to the league title, pint-sized Vincent Kamali carried Buffaloes’ momentum into the regional tournament with six well worked tries.

"I think the boys deserve a lot of credit for their performance. No one expected us to get this far,” Buffaloes”.

"We now want to build on this show during next month’s Hima-Mak 10s. History does not favor us so we have to try and double our efforts,” forward Gerard Nsenga told Times Sport by telephone from Nairobi.

Buffaloes are expected to return this afternoon.

Meanwhile, defending champions and favorites Mwamba RFC held onto their title after whipping Impala RFC 46-13 in the final.
