Burera District is constructing a new hotel in a bid to enhance tourism in the area.
The Burera Beach Resort Hotel is situated in Kagogo Sector on the shores of Burera and Ruhondo lakes.
The hotel is being constructed a Japanese firm, Noguchi Holdings LTD.
The construction is projected to be completed by December at the tune of Rwf350 million, according to officials.
Samuel Sembagare, the district mayor, said despite having a couple of tourist sites, lack of hotels was affecting the tourism sector in the district.
Sembagare said the hotel is expected to boost revenues generated by the district.
"We have decided to invest in hotel construction as we only have two hotels which are not enough to accommodate the number of tourists visiting the district,” he said.
"We have tourists visiting Urugezi valley, Burera and Ruhondo twin lakes as well as the volcanoes park, but most tourists find it difficult to spend the night here.”
He said the hotel would uplift the welfare of area residents through various activities such as sale of artisanal works and cultural events.
Local residents upbeat
Local residents welcomed the project, saying it offer market for various products.
"I know well that tourists like wooden ornaments; So, I hope to get more market for my bamboo products. I am planning to start a business near the hotel and hopefully my products will attract many buyers,” said Christine Mutuyimana.
Meanwhile, Sembagare noted that several investors had shown interest in investing in the developmental projects in the district.
"Eight investors have already bought plots of land to construct hotels around lakes Burera and Ruhondo,” he said.
Sembagare said necessary infrastructure such as electricity and roads are being developed to ease doing business.
He urged residents to be more creative and take advantage of the ongoing projects.
