Rwanda Energy Group (REG) basketball club has appointed Charles Mushumba as their new head coach on a three-year renewable contract.
The development comes after the club decided not to renew the contract of Dean Murray, an American tactician who coached them at the 2023 Basketball Africa League (BAL) edition.

A reliable source from the club’s top management confirmed to Times Sport that an agreement has been reached with Mushumba and that he has started working with the team.
Though not as experienced as his predecessor, Mushumba is a rising basketball coach who has handled various roles on the national team and in clubs.

In 2022, he served as the assistant coach of the national team. He was also part of the technical bench that assisted head coach Cheikh Sarr during the 2023 FIBA World Cup qualifiers.
During his playing days, he featured for the National University of Rwanda (NUR) in 1997 before becoming the head coach for the university’s men and women's teams.
