President Paul Kagame this morning inaugurated the new Kigali City Hall and a nearby commercial complex, M Peace Plaza that belongs to businessman Bertin Makuza.
Both buildings are located in downtown Kigali with the M Peace Plaza, located in the premises of the former Post Office headquarters and expected to host a number of businesses.
During a subsequent meeting with business operators, the President stressed the importance of partnerships between the government and the private sector, saying that both parties must demand more from themselves.
He said the progress the country had recorded over the past few years is not the result of an overnight miracle but consistent hard work.
"The first thing in achieving transformation is to change your mindset and believe that transformation is possible,” he said.
The Head of State said that even with the development achieved thus far, there was still more to be done and challenged the businesses to exploit the opportunities available to them.
"I am demanding because I believe that we are capable of so much more. Our accomplishments should not make us complacent,” he said.
In a subsequent interaction with the business operators, most speakers thanked the President for his personal role in creating an enabling environment for them and requested him to stay on beyond 2017 to ensure the country’s achievements are sustained.
