Rwamagana-based Groupe Scolaire St Aloys have pulled out of the handball league to prepare for the forthcoming Federation of East African Secondary Schools Association (FEASSA) Games slated for August 14-24 in Huye District.
According to the school director, Fr. Aloys Kamiri Karemera Rudasingwa, the high school team have decided to abandon all their remaining fixtures in the league to focus on the regional inter-schools games.
"We are not going to play any other game in the league, we are now in residential camp and don’t want to sustain injuries in these league games since the federation cannot help us in case of such a problem arises,” said Fr. Rudasingwa.
However, when contacted, the Rwanda Handball Federation’s secretary general, Jean Paul Ngarambe, said they have not received any official communication from St. Aloys to that effect.
The club has withdrawn from the league standing in fourth position with 28 points, 11 points behind table leaders Police, with only six games remaining in the league.
Meanwhile, former champions, Gicumbi will host College Inyeramihigo today on match day five in the second round. College Inyeramihigo are fifth with 21 points, one point ahead of Gicumbi.
