A man identified as Theophile Tuyisenge was arrested in an alleged defilement of a 14-year-old girl in Kicukiro District.

The 26-year-old suspect is currently held at Masaka Police Station, while the victim received medical treatment and counseling at Masaka Hospital.

Police Spokesperson for Central Region, Superintendent Modeste Mbabazi noted that the Tuyisenge – who is a casual laborer - is suspected to have committed the heinous crime on August 8, from his house where he had lured his victim.

"He deceived the girl into entering his house, and when she did, he defiled her. The girl screamed for help and that is when residents in the area alerted police, and he was arrested before he could escape,” Superintendent Mbabazi said.

He urged parents, guardians and the general public continue the practice of forwarding timely information to Police in cases of defilement and rape in order to wipe out the scourge.

Police established a toll free number 3512, where information from the public concerning Gender Based Violence can be reported so that immediate action can commence.
