Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Stanislas Kamanzi, on Thursday formally presented his credentials to Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.

Media reports indicate that the Nigerian leader received letters of credence of three new ambassadors to the country, including Andrezj Dycha of Poland and Stephane De Loeckeras of Belgium, during a ceremony in the country’s capital, Abuja.

Asked about his interaction with the Nigerian leader, Kamanzi told Saturday Times that their conversation centred on re-emphasising the good relations between the two countries.

Kamanzi said: "It was about re-emphasising the friendship between our two countries and how, together, we can play a role in contributing to positive change in Africa from the economic self-reliance and good governance perspectives.

"Rwandans should happily perceive the existing relations between Nigeria and Rwanda keeping in mind that Nigeria is now the biggest economy in Africa and this involves considerable business opportunities they should seek to tap, including through joint ventures.”

Nigeria’s economy is worth more than $500 billion and $1 trillion in terms of nominal GDP and purchasing power parity, respectively.

According to media reports, President Buhari assured the new envoys that his administration will work with them to further improve existing bilateral relations between their respective countries and Nigeria, Africa's largest economy after it overtook South Africa last year.

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, in 2011, visited Rwanda, in a bid to cement relations between the two countries.

In May, President Paul Kagame joined more than 50 world leaders to witness the inaugural ceremony of then President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari.
