APR Handball Club coach Anaclet Bagirishya believes his team is still very much in the title race despite lagging three points behind leaders Police with five rounds of matches still to play.

The 2011 league champions kept pressure on reigning champions Police with a convincing 41-24 win against College Inyeramihigo on Wednesday at Stella Marris ground in Rubavu.

Emile Gendaneza scored a game high 8 goals for second-placed APR, who have lost one game this season, while Police remain unbeaten.

"The title race is still wide open; nothing has been decided yet because we are three points off the pace. Our target remains the same: winning the league,” Bagirishya said.

APR and Police will square off in the last league game in October which could determine the destiny of the league title.

Elsewhere, Groupe Scolaire St. Aloys defeated Nyakabanda 28-13, with the latter yet to win a single match in the second phase having lost all its four games so far.

After match-day 14, Police lead the table with 39 points, three ahead of APR, while ES Kigoma are in third with 29 points and GS St. Aloys in fourth, a further one point behind.

Nyakabanda, College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), College of Education (CE) and Groupe Scolaire Rambura occupy the bottom four positions, respectively.
