National Football League side Amagaju FC will go into the 2015/16 campaign seeking to improve on their 8th place finish from last season.

They finished the season with 32 points and have now set a target of 40 points for next season, according to head coach Abdu ‘Beken’ Bizimana.

Speaking to Times Sports on Wednesday, Bizimana said the team is set for the new season having started pre-season training three weeks ago.

"Our target for the coming season is to finish with at least 40 points. Last season the target was to get 35 points but we finished with 32, which was good enough given the problems we had throughout the season,” said Bizimana.

The Southern Province-based club has since released four out-of-contract players including Aranga Yenga, Hussein Hakizimana, Didier Nkurunziza and Hakim Mutabazi, and signed left-back Cassien Nzamurambaho as a free agent, who left Gicumbi FC.

Bizimana also said his team has a pre-season friendly match against Peace Cup winners Police FC on Saturday at Kicukiro stadium.

In a separate interview, the club’s vice president, Damascene Nkurunziza, disclosed that the club will count on Nyamagabe District, their main sponsors, for most of its budget in the new financial year. The district has already allocated the club Rwf80m for the forthcoming season.

"Last season we had a poor campaign mainly because of financial problems which demoralised players but we expect a better season this time round as we already have the funds to run the club and paid all the outstanding arrears,” said Nkurunziza.

He noted that the club will hold their annual general meeting next week which will, among other things, endorse the club’s financial and transfer plans, but revealed their transfer kitty will not exceed Rwf5 million.

They also looking to extend contracts for some of their players, he added.
