The national men’s volleyball team will enter residential camp next Tuesday to start preparations for the upcoming All Africa Games which will be staged in Congo Brazzaville from September 4-19. Paul Bitok’s side will be training twice a day at Petit Stade in Remera, according to the Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB) secretary general Christian Hatumimana.
Zone V champions Rwanda will be up against North African giants Algeria, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Ghana and Seychelles in Group B.
Hatumimana said, "We need to prepare the team early enough as we bid to have a good campaign in Congo.”
"We are trying to make sure that we have the strongest team available because if you are going to win All Africa Games, you need to have a strong team, and that is what we are trying to do,” he added.
Bitok will have the services of team captain Christophe Mukunzi, who returned to action recently after spending three months out with a right wrist injury that required surgery, and assistant captain Lawrence Guma Yakan, who is still recuperating from a knee injury.
This is the second time that Rwanda has qualified for All Africa Games.
