Every human being loves some kind of power. The expectation is that once you have influence, you can get most of the good things life has to offer. For the mature people, a good salary, a big car and a mansion among many other luxuries quickly come to mind. And much as children and teenagers may have slightly different interests from their parents, they also have the desire to be ‘respected’ by their peers and there is no easier way than becoming a student leader or prefect. Fortunately, many schools give preferential treatment to prefects. That is why a reasonable number of learners aspire for leadership positions whenever an opportunity strikes.
