After defeating Equatorial Guinea 83-52 on Saturday, debutants Rwanda U-16 men’s national basketball team take on Algeria today at 10am (12pm CAT) hoping to register a second win of the U16 Afro-Basket tournament.

The fourth edition of the biannual U16 Afro-Basket championship kicked off on July 30 and will run through August 8 in Bamako, Mali.

Albert Buhake’s youngsters, who lost the first two games 75-40 to hosts Mali on Thursday and 95-36 at hands of the two-time champions Egypt on Friday, recovered well to win 83-52 over Equatorial Guinea.

Elsewhere in pool A, Nigeria face Egypt while hosts Mali take on Guinea.

In pool B, reigning champions Angola battle it out with Central Africa Republic, Morocco will be up Against Tunisia while South Africa lock horns with Ethiopia.

The fourth U-16 Africa Basketball Championships has a total of twelve participating countries grouped under two pools. Rwanda are drawn in pool A alongside Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria, Mali, Algeria and Egypt.

Pool B is comprised of defending champions Angola, Ethiopia, Morocco, Tunisia, Central Africa Republic and the Republic of South Africa.

Holders Angola beat North-African Egypt 75-66 to win the 2013 tournament. The latter had won the first two editions in 2009 and 2011.
