The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry (MINAGRI) is focusing on increasing the adoption of improved farm inputs. This is built on the belief that the current fertilizer consumption is still below levels and therefore limit profitability of farming. In this regard, it is important to review farmers’ response to fertilizer application and profitability in Rwanda and how these factors shape agronomic and agro-economic potential as well as effective demand. DR. CHARLES MUREKEZI, Coordinator Fertilizer Program, Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI), talks to The New Times’ GEOFFREY WAKIBI about the current status of fertilizer usage in the country.
