A NEW DAY
little birds sing in the trees
the the mingle of air and dew raise a new gentle breeze
then I learn it is 6:00 am
a new day has come
children scream out of excitement
the little ones clinging unto their mother’s robs
while the elders match to their plantations
I can feel their feet stamping the ground
their anxiety for a day
no little can tell
they silently wait for what the new day shall bring
the girls combine wood
to give a fine flame
while little boys and girls
shout out in delight
they climb dem mango trees
because there no reason to worry
it is a new day
they skip their roaps
as the old ones go to hunt
oh what a beauty they face
when mama boils rabbit soup
in their fine nsuwa
and watch papa roll a big white solid ball of bugali
As they listen to the rumbles
in their tummies
children lay their bodies down to rest
its been a busy day
full of nothing but excitement
and smiles accompany
them to their neverland
as they wait for another exciting day
a new day to come
in a pool of thoughts
their parents lie
thoughts of tomorrow
strangle them to death
terrified at what a new day will bring
and when it comes
they face it all over
because its a new day
and a new day will always come
