Former Amavubi striker Jimmy Mulisa has been appointed head coach of Sunrise FC days after being appointed as assistant coach of the national team.

Sunrise team manager Eric Muvunyi revealed that they have come to an agreement with Mulisa to take charge of the team as the head coach for a period of one year subject to renewal at the end of the season.

"We have agreed a one-year contract with Mulisa as the head coach but it can be extended depending on the team’s performance,” said Muvunyi.

Mulisa who has been working with the club as the technical director will begin his new responsibilities after the Amavubi friendly against South Africa scheduled on July 28 in Johannesburg.

Thierry Nzungu who has been the head coach will be his assistant coach, according to the team manager Muvunyi.

Meanwhile, the technical director post will remain vacant in the meantime as the club search for a replacement according to Muvunyi.

Mulisa retired from professional football career last year at T-Team FC of Malaysia having played 15 games, scoring eight goals.

On national duty he made 37 appearances scoring 21 goals. Times Sport sought clarifications on his new responsibilities and ambitions however by press time, Mulisa had not returned our phone calls.

Sunrise FC was promoted to the National Football League last year, however, they finished fourth on the league table ahead of giant teams like Rayon Sport and Kiyovu Sport with 40 points from 10 wins, 10 draws, and six losses in 26 games.
