President Kagame arrived in Los Angeles on Friday where he will attend the opening ceremony of 2015 Special Olympic World Games. Other high-level guests scheduled to attend include US First Lady Michelle Obama, Honorary Host of the Games.President Kagame will also participate in a forum on inclusive development, organized alongside the Special Olympics.Rwanda is represented at this year’s Special Olympics by five athletes who will compete in athletics, aquatics and the half-marathon. More than 6,500 athletes from 165 nations are expected to compete in the games, which take place every two years. Founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Special Olympics is a global movement that unleashes the human spirit through the transformative power and joy of sports. The movement, which has grown to more than 4.5 million athletes in 170 countries, empowers people with intellectual disabilities to become accepted and valued members of their communities.
