“Ishimwa” screens this weekend

Ishimwa: From Bloodshed to Grace, a 15- minute short film will be screened at Chapter One in Kimihurura, today, as part of the Spoken Word, a monthly event.

Ishimwa: From Bloodshed to Grace, a 15- minute short film will be screened at Chapter One in Kimihurura, today, as part of the Spoken Word, a monthly event.

On Saturday, the same film will be showing at The Office, Kigali’s co-working space, in Kiyovu at 7:30. This will be followed by a Q&A session, in which Ishimwa and Cynthia Umulisa Butare, the producer of the film, will take part.

Ishimwa: From Bloodshed to Grace reveals the story of a Genocide survivor’s struggle to overcome his past, and to come to terms with his trauma by finding redemption in form of dance as an acclaimed ballet dancer.

Umulisa was born and raised in Switzerland and she uses her talent to tell stories that impact the community. She boasts of a number of inspirational films, such as, Kickin’ It With The Kinks, a documentary about the hair care of African women.
