APR FC head coach Dusan Dule Sulgajic believes his team can win this year›s CECAFA Kagame Cup in Dar es Salaam but admits they face a serious threat from Kenyan champions, Gor Mahia.
The Serbian tactician made the confession after his team came from behind to defeat Burundian champions Lydia Ludic Academy 2-1 in the final group B game played yesterday at the near-empty 50,000-seater National Stadium.
After a dull first half, LLB took the lead through substitute Abdoul Aziz Nahimana in the 57th minute. However, APR were level three minutes later through a Patrick Sibomana penalty before Issa Bigirimana made sure all points were bagged with his first goal of the tournament in the 90th minute.
The Rwandan champions remain perfect with a maximum nine points, while LLB are out with two points Sudanese side Al Ahly Shendi go through as first runner up with four points thanks to their 3-2 win over Somalia›s Heegan FC in the early kickoff.
APR and Gor Mahia are the two teams favoured to contest the final on August 2, however, while APR have booked their place in the last eight with nine points and have completed their group matches, Gor sit second in Group A behind Al Khartoum after winning the first two games but still have two more games to play, including today›s clash with Al Khartoum.
"APR is just one of the teams that can win the tournament, but personally, I think the Kenyan team (read Gor Mahia) is the team to beat, they are strong throughout the field,” Dusan told Times Sport.
