Rwanda men’s volleyball national team has registered their first victory at the ongoing Men's African Nations Championship in Cairo, Egypt.

Paul Bitok’s side thrashed Mauritius 3-0 in the Pool B game but the Rwandan side struggled in the second and third sets 26-24 and 26-24 respectively.

Rwanda led from the first point to win 25-13 in the first set and continued their dominance in second set winning 26-24 and the last set which was tough, Rwanda won by 26-24.

Captain Christophe Mukunzi said, it was a tough game but they managed to get three points. "It was a very tight game and close but I thank my teammates who worked hard to win the game.”

He added, "We are happy to win this game. It was an important game for us. We are going to focus on the remaining games, and we know we will face strong opponents but we are ready for the challenge.”

Rwanda lost their opening game against Morocco 3-0 on Wednesday and they will face Cameroon today before facing Tunisia tomorrow.

In the other match of the day, Egypt beat Kenya 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-18) in Pool A.

The winner and runner up of this tournament will book their tickets to the 2015 World Cup set for August 22-September 6 in Japan.
