Kenya’s KPA were crowned champions of the 2023 FIBA Zone V Women’s Championship, following Saturday’s 87-53 comfortable victory over home side REG in the final held at a sold-out Lycée de Kigali Gymnasium.

In a tightly contested final, KPA took the first quarter 22-16, and second quarter 22-14 to head into half-time with a 44-30 lead in favor of the Kenyans.
Center Madinja Okoto and Victoria Reynolds formed an unstoppable combination which instantly improved their attacking intent, hence winning the third quarter 18-13, and the fourth 25-10 to bag a much-deserved win despite playing away from home.

Reynolds led KPA’s scorings with a game high 23 points in the final and was as a result awarded Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.
It’s an achievement that excited champions’ coach Antony Ojukwu Oloo.
"Well I want to thank my players and my staff, we are many, some of them couldn&039;t make it to Rwanda,” he said.
Besides the trophy, KPA will, alongside REG, represent the Zone V in the 2023 FIBA Africa Champions Cup that will take place in Egypt from December 8-17.
Meanwhile, APR women, another Rwandan side, crashed out of the competition following a shock 58-75 quarterfinal defeat to Uganda’s JKL Lady Dolphins on Thursday.
