Police and APR handball clubs are still neck-and-neck in the race for the national handball league title following wins against Nyakabanda and Gicumbi respectively on Sunday at Kimisagara youth centre ground.
Police defeated Nyakabanda 55- 16 goals with Gilbert Mutuyimana and Jean Paul Muhawenayo contributing 10 goals apiece for the defending champions while APR defeated Gicumbi 31-27 goals. APR’s Viateur Rwamankwa scored a game high 10 goals.
After the win which kept his team at the top of the table with 33 points, level with second-placed APR but with a game in hand, Police coach Antoine Ntibanganya admitted his team faces a tough battle in the race to retain the title.
"We aim to win all our remaining games with a big goal difference because it could be crucial in case we finish the league with equal points as APR,” said Ntibanganya
Next weekend, Police will play against GS Rambura at Birambo ground while APR will have a break and will play again on August 1 against College Inyemeramihigo.
