Homegrown coaches are not solution to poor performance

Editor,

RE: "Where are Rwanda’s homegrown coaches?” (The New Times, July 18).

I think the current approach of recruiting football coaches cannot be blamed for the poor performance, we simply have not yet got a "special one”.

The issue of homegrown coaches was often raised in the English media in recent years, now they have got one.

Has their performance improved? On the other hand, Rwanda national cycling team is managed by an American and is likely to become irreplaceable.

However, I totally agree that our former football stars should be given roles in managing our football. But in a globalised society, there is no guarantee that once they gain experience they will continue to live on breadline when there is a better opportunity elsewhere.
