Primus Guma-Guma Super Star 5 (PGGSS5) contenders braved the chilly Musanze weather on Saturday to entertain a large crowd of excited revellers during the second last show of the 2015 annual musical competition.
Residents of Musanze town and nearby areas thronged the district’s Ubworoherane stadium to see the artistes tussle it out for the country’s biggest musical prize, less than a month to the grand finale.
To kick off things, emcees Anita Pendo and Tino did their part, warming up the crowd with a few jokes, with the revellers getting involved in curtain-raiser sessions that saw several walk away with goodies.
However, it did not take long before serious business ensued with hip hop act OdaPaccy the first on stage. She started off with Miss President and got the expectant crowd excited before signing off with Umusirimu.
Next on stage was Bull Dogg who kept the hip hop mood alive. The Tuff Gang rapper, clad in black from head to toe, performed several of his hits along with his ever-reliable protégée Khalifan, to the delight of the jam packed stadium.
As was the case in the previous roadshow in Nyamirambo, Bull Dogg proved to be a crowd magnet, as he performed Nk'umusaza, Icyukyi , Kazaroho, among others.
Then Musanze’s very own Rafiki, the self-proclaimed King of Choga style, expectedly received a resounding welcome on to the stage. Oozing confidence, perhaps from the fact he was performing on his home turf, Rafiki was this time without back-up as he performed Igikosi and Igikomando.
Then it was time for man of gimmicks Senderi ‘International Hit’, who was clad in a body hugging costume and escorted by an entourage of dancers and mock gorillas.
The Jalousie singer performed Twaribohoye and Nsomyaho amid cheers and boos before he vacated the stage to pave way for Bruce Melodie. The RnB singer apologised to Musanze residents for not showing up some time back when they expected him before going on to perform Ntundize, Ndumiwe amid cheers.
Showing some versatility, the usually calm boy duo TNP opened their act with their reggae song Kilometre.
The duo of Passy and Tracy were next on stage with a more powerful performance than was the case in most previous shows as they performed Ndamubonye.
Up next was Jules Sentore who was supported by Intore traditional dancers, performing Kora Akazi and Udatsikira.
Then came Knowless – to wild cheers. The songstress kicked off her act with Wari Urihe before Sweet Mutima.
Knowless left the stage for boy band Active who impressed not only in dance moves but also fashion-wise in funky Nigerian attire.
They kicked off with Nicyo Naremewe and then Pole, which they accompanied with an impressive dance routine, drawing cheers from around the packed stadium.
To icing on the cake was boy duo Dream Boys who packed the stage with dancers and did an exciting Lingala influenced dance presentation.
The energetic dance moves saw Platini Nemeye’s trousers getting ripped on stage but he made fun of the incident instead. The duo did Urare Aharyana and Tujyane Iwacu.
"I came here to support Knowless but I can say that all of the artistes performed well and I can say Musanze residents were impressed,” said Hadijah Batamuliza.
"We saw great dance moves from all performers, particularly Dream Boys,” added Emmeline Manishimwe.
Jerome Nsengiyumva was the lucky winner of a three-wheeled motorcycle and crates of Bralirwa products to help him start off a business.
The Rubavu leg is the only remaining PGGSS5 roadshow before the grand finale in Kigali on August 15.
