Midfielder Hegman Ngomirakiza has ended his ten-year association with APR FC after the army allowed him to walk away for free following the expiry of his contract this month, the player confirmed on Thursday.

The Rwanda international was the club’s longest serving outfield player but had become a bit player in the last two seasons mainly due to injuries and loss of form.

In an exclusive interview with Times Sport, Ngomirakiza said, "After much deliberation, I asked for a release letter and the club reluctantly gave me a go ahead to leave.”

The 25-year-old Ngomirakiza revealed that it took him a lot of time to take the decision to leave APR but explained that he has not been given enough playing time.

In the just concluded 2014/15 season, he played ten games, scoring four goals.

"It has been tough for me not to play for the club that I have played for and supported all my life. Although the club wanted me to extend my contract, I needed to go somewhere I can have a chance to play regularly and prove myself,” he explained.

Born in Kalemi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ngomirakiza started his football career with APR junior team in 2006/07 season where he played one year before he was loaned to AS Kigali for the 2007/8 season and after impressing on loan, APR took him back and enlisted him in the senior team.

APR secretary general, Adolph Camarade Kalisa also confirmed the news, saying that, the player asked to be released after being dropped by the coach from squad that headed to Dar-es-Salam for CECAFA Kagame Cup.

The attacking midfielder is currently in talks with a number of clubs, among them; Kiyovu Sport, Peace Cup winners Police FC and Rayon Sport but the later is his preferred destination.
