Ex-sports stars can make great pundits

Editor,

Reference is made to the article, "Why we don’t have former players doing media work” (The New Times, July 12). I think it is not about our former sportsmen and women shying away from or not being good or confident enough to express their views in the media.

I am sure if someone recruited them to do the job they would do it.

For those who can watch Match of the Day, Equipe du Dimanche, or listen to Talk Sport radio, they will agree with me that Garry Lineker, David Ginola and other former players make a difference.

If you empowered veterans like Olivier Karekezi, Didier Bizimana, Billy Musakombi, Kassim Rugamba, among others, you will be surprised by the passion and the depth of their analysis.

We need pundits; it is about credibility and passion. Journalists have the knowledge of the job; ex-sportsmen have the passion of the game. If you train them, you will get an outstanding sports reporters or pundits.
