Celebrated American hip hop legend Kendrick Lamar Duckworth, popularly known as Kendrick Lamar, has been announced as the headliner of ‘Move Afrika: A Global Citizen Experience’, first Africa music tour slated for December 6, in Kigali.
Move Afrika, according to a communique released by Global Citizen today, is a five-year large-scale effort to pioneer a first-of-its-kind international music tour in Africa, which aims to showcase the best of Africa to the world, while also driving investments in the communities that will be hosting it.
The first show of the tour will take place on December 6, at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, headlined by Grammy Award winning star Kendrick Lamar, while his PgLang, an independent multi creative services company specialized in music and visual media production, will serve as the curator of the tour for the next five years, from 2023 until 2028.

In partnership with the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Rwanda will be hosting ‘Move Afrika’ every year for the next five years, and each year, additional countries will be added to the tour schedule with a goal of expanding it to five countries by 2025.

initiatives of the private sector, with a spotlight on the youth, is Rwanda Development Board’s core mandate.
Together with Global Citizen and Move Afrika, we will position Rwanda as an entertainment hub for all African countries to benefit from the global creative industry,” Francis Gatare, Chief Executive Officer of RDB, said in a media statement released on Friday, November 3.
Kendrick Lamar will be the second hip hop legend to come to Rwanda, following J Cole who played for Patriots at the Basketball Africa League (BAL) inaugural season that took place in Rwanda in 2021.

Born on June 17, 1987, Kendrick Lamar is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter who is widely regarded as one of the most influential rappers of his generation. His works, which regularly infuse social, political, religious, and philosophical influences, became a catalyst in the rise of social consciousness amongst Millennials.
He has been named the second-greatest rapper of all time by Billboard and Vibe, and has garnered critical acclaim for his signature cadences, artistic reinventions, and introspective songwriting.
