Bugesera and Rwamagana FC have earned promotion to the topflight division league next season overcoming AS Muhanga and Sorwathe respectively in the second division semi-finals playoffs yesterday.
At ETO Nyamata ground, Fisto Biramayirwe scored the only goal of the game in the 5th minute to seal the win that saw Bugesera advance to the final with a 3-0 aggregate score having won 2-0 in the first leg last week in Muhanga.
In another semi-final playoff played at Kinihira stadium in Rulindo District, Rwamagana FC stunned hosts Sorwathe 2-1 to advance to the final 3-2 on goals aggregate. The first leg clash on Wednesday ended I a 1-1 draw.
Ramadthan Niyonkuru and Bashir Kabajema were the heroes for Rwamagana’s promotion to the national football league for the 2015/15 season.
It’s the first time that the Eastern Province will have more than one team in the national league—next season, the region will be represented by three clubs, including Rwamagana-based Sunrise FC, which was promoted last season and finished an impressive fourth position, above the likes of Rayon Sports, SC Kiyovu and Mukura.
"We very excited to have qualified to play in the first division next season, it’s a reward of the hard work we have invested from the beginning of the season,” Bugesera FC head coach Noah Nsanziyinka told Sunday Sport yesterday.
He added, "Our first target has been achieved but now next is to win the final and advance to the first division as champions.”
The final is scheduled to be played on Saturday.
