RWANDA’S favorite long distance athlete Dieudonne Disi is doubtful about his chances of putting on a good show at the 3rd edition of the World Half Marathon Championships due Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this weekend.

Disi told Times Sport recently from his training base in Southern France that the fact that he’s been training in humid weather, it could end up affecting his performance.

"I have trained under heavy coldness and I think this could affect my performance but am looking forward to giving the best I can in Brazil on Sunday.

"I’ve had good training despite the cold,” Disi said, noting that jetlag will be another factor which could affect his performance dearly.

He further added that teammate Gervais Hakizimana has been impressive ever since he went to France in late July.

"(To me), he’s the favorite to perform better in this world half marathon. He has prepared thoroughly well and has won several local championships here (in France),” Disi said.

Both Disi and Hakizimana left Toulouse on Wednesday night and the pair is expected to land in Rio de Janeiro today evening.

The pair are joining local based compatriot Slyvain Rukundo, Italian based female athlete Angelline Nyiransabimana and coach Emmanuel Murenzi, who are already in Rio.

The team will be aiming to put on an improved performance to better sixth overall finish recorded last year in Udine, Italy.
