Refer to the story, ‘‘Govt to establish capacity building, employment board’’ which was published on Wednesday July 9.

"Capacity Development is Development”, as people involved in the Capacity Development field tend to say. I agree with that, and I am confident if the CESB manages very well its mandate, that can help the Public Sector contribute its share to the development of Rwanda.

Capacity, competency, skills and employment opportunity deficits cannot be solved by establishment of Capacity Building Boards – it is seeking a remedy for a prevalent problem from the wrong place! The solution can only be traced in transforming Rwanda’s post-secondary education curriculum to embrace authentic and personalised learning.

These approaches would transform the classroom as we know it. Education and teaching should bring real - world experience and life to the classroom environment. Students should learn by solving real-world problems and projects.

This approach will not only provide students and graduates hands-on experience, but also the skills and competencies required by the 21st century labour market. Students and graduates will be empowered to think critically and become more creative to create business or start-ups that further employ masses!
