Music and laughter filled the air as thousands of spectators and music fans flocked Ngoma stadium as Primus Guma Guma Superstar 5 road shows entered into the ‘full live’ segment. Whereas the previous shows have been taking place on Saturdays, last weekend’s show was held on Sunday because July 4 was Liberation Day holiday.
The show started off with the entertainment by emcees Anita Pendo and Tino, who like in the previous road shows, invited people on the stage to dance before the first contestant was called on stage.
The emcees then introduced the band and the first contestant, Eric Senderi, aka "International Hit, 3D from Harvard, Mayweather” on the stage. The Icyomoro singer put up a lovely performance and seemed to have impressed the judges and revelers alike.
Contestants were required to perform two songs for not more than fifteen minutes. Rafiki, Bruce Melodie and Dream Boys also had a great show as their performances were powerful, endearing and well delivered.
The two female artistes in the competition, Knowless Butera and Oda Paccy also wowed the audience with their wild gyration, thanks to their stunning looks and incredible voices. Knowless, who was supported by Intayoberanwa dancers, performed her popular singles, Follow You and Sweet Mutima.
"In live performances you can enjoy yourself, it’s a full experience,” said Paccy, after performing her 2012 track- Miss President and Umusirimu to the crowds’ delight.
Bruce Melody sang Ndakwanga and Ndumiwe. The 23-year-old showed a maturity of vocal execution and stage performance. He started off with a very cool, calm and collected performance but still managed to captivate the crowds. The Judges were all smiles after his performance.
Teaming their style choice with a yellow hooded-jacket, Active and their dancers earned the crowd’s admiration with their freestyle—they performed Nicyo naremewe and Pole.
Bull Dogg, who is participating for the fifth time, sang Nk’umusaza and Icyuki, songs about his love for music and had the audience blown away with his performance. The rapper was so moved by the fans’ appreciation—he said that they inspire him to always perform at his best.
Dream Boys took to the stage with seven dancers. They got the crowd singing along and dancing as they belted out their famous hits Urare aharyana and No One Like You. Boy band, TNP sang Kamucerenge and Byina, while Jules Sentore did Kora Akazi and Injera.
The live show also marked the first nationwide Tombola promotion and the lucky winner was Anaclet Iradukunda, a Senior 6 vacist.
With last weekend’s live show performances, PGGSS5 moves into high gear as each contestant tries to work harder to ensure they stay in the competition. This year’s contest features 10 artistes, competing for Rwf24million prize and the title to become the Primus Ambassador.
Primus Guma Guma Super Star is an annual Rwanda reality singing competition—started and organised by Bralirwa through its biggest mainstream brand - Primus. This is its 5th season and it ends on August 15, 2015. Next weekend, the live road show will take place in Kigali.
