AS Muhanga overturned the first leg deficit by thrashing La Jeunesse 3-0 in the return leg on Sunday at Mumena stadium, to qualify for semi-finals of the second division league playoffs.
The Muhanga District-sponsored side lost 2-1 in the first leg last Wednesday but responded well to the nightmare to humiliate favourites La Jeunesse to set a semi-final clash against Bugesera FC on Wednesday (tomorrow). The later beat Nyagatare 2-1 to progress on a 3-1 aggregate score.
All goals for Felix Mbonyizana came in the second-half after both sides had played a goalless first-half.
Goalkeeper Eric Mbonyigena, who played the second half as a striker, scored a brace in the 54th and 68th minute before midfielder Haruna Niyibizi netted the third goal for the 2013 Peace Cup beaten finalists, AS Muhanga.
"I am thrilled by the good job my players did today, this was our toughest match of the season. We need to quickly get to work as we prepare for the semi-final against Bugesera. We are fighting to return to the topflight league,” Mbonyizana told Times Sport.
Elsewhere, Sorwathe FC beat United Stars 3-1 to advance to semis with a 4-1 aggregate score to set-up a semi-final meet against Rwamagana FC, who won 1-0 against Kicukiro-based ASPOR.
The semi-final first leg matches will be played tomorrow and the second leg at the weekend. Finalists will earn automatic tickets to the 2015/2016 topflight league.
