Rwandan champions APR have been drawn in Group B of the upcoming CECAFA Kagame Cup scheduled for July 11-August 2 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The army side has been drawn alongside Sudan’s Al Ahly Shandy, Lydia Ludic Burundi (LLB) Académic FC and Elmani of Somalia and will have to finish among the top two to make it to the quarterfinals of the annual competition.

APR head coach Dusan Suljagic told Times Sport that, "Our target is to win the CECAFA Kagame Cup. It will not be easy but now that we are out of the Peace Cup, we are going to start preparations so that we try to work towards our target.”

Meanwhile, Amavubi captain Haruna Niyonzima’s side Yanga has been drawn in Group A with Kenyan champions Gor Mahia, Khartoum of Sudan, Somalia’s Telecom and KMKM of Zanzibar.

Niyonzima will be up against his fellow national teammate Abouba Sibomana who plies his trade at Gor Mahia and the former will be hoping the Tanzanian side wins the title in front of their home fans for a sixth time, to tie with their archrivals Simba SC who have six titles.

In Group C, Ugandan champions KCCA will be up against Malakia of South Sudan, Azam (Tanzania) and Adama City of Ethiopia.

Sudan’s El Merreikh are the defending champions after they defeated APR 1-0 courtesy of Allan Wanga’s strike in the final last year at Amahoro Stadium.
