Rayon Sports volleyball club head coach Fidèle Nyirimana has decried what he calls neglect of the team by the club leadership, which he said is likely to cost the club this year’s league title.
Despite beating their rivals APR last Saturday, Nyirimana does not believe his side can win this year’s title. He said, "It is hard to win the title this year because the club leadership is not doing their job.”
The players have spent six months without pay while the technical staff have not been paid in seven months.
"Players give their best, they have played almost the whole season without getting what they deserve. We won the game because APR was weak but I cannot assure you that we are going to win the league.
"It will not be easy to compete in the playoffs because, for the players, it will not be easy for them to continue to sacrifice. We have many matches in the playoffs and if the committee does not do something about it, we will not win the title,” he noted.
Rayon Sports are the table leaders with 38 points while INATEK are second with 35 points with APR (30) and Kirehe (22) in third and fourth, respectively, and the four teams will contest for the title in the men’s play-offs which are set for July 5 in Kirehe.
Rayon Sports will be up against Kirehe in the morning before INATEK takes on hosts APR. Rayon Sports will face APR before INATEK plays against Kirehe. Rayon Sports meets INATEK before Kirehe takes on APR in the last encounter.
Each of the other three teams will host the round robin matches on consecutive weekends. The winner of each game will be awarded with two points that will then be added to their regular season points.
