Rayon Sports have edged closer to the final of the Peace Cup following their 2-1 semi-final first leg win over Isonga FC yesterday at Muhanga Stadium.
Jean-Baptiste Kayiranga’s team only needs any draw in the second leg on Tuesday to reach the final of Peace Cup for the first time since 2005, which was also the last time, they won the competition.
The ‘blues’ went ahead through Burundian midfielder Pierrot Kwizera in the 9th minute while the impressive Djihad Bizimana scored the second goal on the 46th minute.
Isonga’s lone goal came from the penalty spot through Mansour Senzira after Rayon Sports defender Vivier Niyonkuru brought down Alexis Ndacyayisenga on the 55th minute.
Bizimana and Kwizera had chances to increase Rayon Sport’s advantage but were both denied by the impressive Isonga goalkeeper Bonheur Hategekimana.
On the other end, goalie Eric ‘Bakame’ Ndayishimiye was called into action on two separate occasions to deny Danny Usengimana and Alexis Ndacyayisenga.
The winner of this semi-final will take on whoever wins the second semi-final between Police FC and title holders APR, who face-off in the first leg today at Kicukiro stadium before meeting again in the second leg on Wednesday.
