NGOMA — Jean De Dieu Shyirambere, one of the victims of the September 21 accident in Ngoma district, has been transferred to Kigali Central Hospital (CHK) for further treatment.
Shyiramnere was being treated in Kibungo Hospital until his transfer was effected recently.
Shyirambere, a senior six student at Gasetsa Secondary School in Ngoma district is also an orphan who suffered a fracture from the severe accident.
He was given a transfer to CHK a day after the accident but had no health insurance.
For the past three weeks, he has been at Kibungo Hospital with no treatment. He can neither walk nor sit.
He has been surviving on residents’ supplies for food and drinks. Residents also helped him secure health insurance which will make his treatment cheaper at CHK.
Close to Frw80,000 was also raised by the residents to help him in the hospital.
This includes Frw50, 000 that was pledged by one of the students and a former lecturer at Kigali Institute of Education (KIE), currently in the United States of America for a study leave.
"I can now have some hopes of sitting my forthcoming exams,” Shyirambere said before leaving for his further treatment.
"Having survived the accident, maybe others will also be possible,” he added.
However, the hospital refused to give him an ambulance to transfer him as he went by private means.
He was among the 18 people who were referred to Kibungo hospital when two taxis belonging to ATRACO travel agency collided at Kabale along Kayonza-Rusumo road in Ngoma district killing seven people and injuring other 32.
The others who sustained injuries were discharged a few days after the incident.
