AS Kigali win 7th women's league title

AS Kigali 2-2 Kamonyi

AS Kigali celebrated their seventh National Women Football League title win on Tuesday at Kicukiro stadium.

The ceremony was preceded by a friendly match between the champions and first runners-up Kamonyi FC that ended in a 2-all draw. Notable among the guests was the vice president of Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA),Vesdaste Kayiranga, the head of women’s football in Rwanda, Feliste Rwemalika and the Mayor of the City of Kigali, Fidele Ndayisaba, among others.

Grace Nyinawumuntu’s AS Kigali, who have not tasted defeat in the league for three seasons, proved once again their strength by coming from two goals down to level the game.

Kamonyi took the lead in the 31st minute through Jeannette Mukeshimana and doubled it in the 57th courtesy of Dorothée Mukeshimana but the reigning champions fought back to cancel out both goals through Marie Anne Ibangarye in the 79th minute and Martha Nyiramwiza five minutes later.

Talking to Times Sport on Tuesday, AS Kigali coach Nyinawumuntu expressed her delight at winning a seventh league title and going the whole season unbeaten for the third season in a row.

In addition to the trophy, the champions also walked away with a Rwf1 million in cash prize while Kamonyi, who finished second, received Rwf500,000.
