Pepiniere FC beat SEC Academy 1-0 on Saturday at Ferwafa Grounds in a Pool A second division league match but it was not enough to seal a place in the top big four. Forward Prince Longa Longa scored the lonely goal of the game.

Pepiniere, coached by former Rayon Sports Kenyan defender Cox Muleyi, started the campaign targeting promotion to topflight league season but ended up finishing in fifth position in their pool with 40 points, one point behind third-placed Nyagatare, who drew 1-1 with Etoile de l’Est.

Muleyi admitted that he failed in his mission but vowed to go into the next season with a point to prove. "The battle is over now, we are going to start preparing for the next season and I am sure we will come back stronger.”

Aspoir (47 points), La Jeunesse (45), United Stars (42) and Nyagatare with 41 points finished in the top four in Pool A, while Bugesera (54), Sorwathe (52), Muhanga (43) and Rwamagana (39) are the top four teams in Pool B.

The eight sides have qualified for the knock-out stages vying for two slots available for promotion to the topflight division league next season.
