The management of AB Bank Rwanda has reinstated the employee at the centre of the racially charged controversy after a probe by the IT department as the institution absolved him of any hand in leaking the controversial emails.

The emails were exchanged between two European managers and during their exchange it was suggested that the employee be assigned ‘monkey officer’ which was seen racial discrimination.

Immediately the thread went viral on social media early this week, the employee in question, Akheem Bwitonzi, was suspended over suspicion of having a hand in the leakage.

"After examining the IT report on the managers’ computers, there was no evidence linking Akheem to the leaks so I have just signed a letter recalling him to work,” Arah Sadava, the bank’s managing director told The New Times yesterday evening during an exclusive interview.

The bank has since suspended Anne Gossner and Marijana Grujic, the two managers involved in the leaked private email-correspondences.

In the interview, Sadava, who only took over in April, explained that the two managers will remain on suspension until investigations into the matter are completed.
