Mukunzi started training this week and believes he will compete in All Africa Games scheduled for September 4-19 in Congo Brazzaville.
"I am feeling well and strong, I have started physical training and I hope to start training with the ball as soon as possible, and to play in international competitions,” he said yesterday.
The former Kigali Volleyball Club player has been out of action for last two months after undergoing surgery on his right wrist. Mukunzi was an influential player for the national team, which reached the last stage of World Cup qualifiers, but missed the ticket after winning three games against Nigeria, Gabon and Nigeria but lost to Algeria.
The 27-year-old started his playing career with Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) in 2007 and four years later he turned professional with Libyan side Tarsana Club. He did not finish the season because of the civil war in that country. He returned to Rwanda and continued to play for KVC but at the end of 2011-2012 season, he got a fresh offer from Blida Club in Algeria, and after one season, he joined Qatari side Al Arabi Sports Club.
In 2013-2014 seasons, Mukunzi went back to Algerian side El Fanar Ain-Azel Club. Currently, he has been featuring for Turkish second division side Payas Belediye Sport Club, where his contract expired in April.
