Prime Life Insurance has launched a new campaign where low-income earners will be able to get funeral insurance cover for Rwf400 per month.

Gregoire Minani, the Prime Life Insurance chief executive officer, said the product will make funeral insurance affordable for all.

"This product will also ease the financial burden of dealing with the death of a loved one,” Minani said.

Meanwhile, Prime Life Insurance has donated Rwf2 million to University Central Hospital of Rwanda (CHUK) to help the hospital meet some of the funeral expenses of unclaimed bodies. The donation was announced at the signing of a partnership agreement between the two institutions yesterday.

Theobald Hategekimana, the hospital director, said the number of unclaimed bodies has been increasing over the years.

"Eighty-seven bodies were not claimed between July last year and this month, and the hospital has had to spend about Rwf10 million to bury them,” Hategekimana said.

He said this expense was having a toll on the hospital budget.

Minani said: "We learnt that the number of unclaimed bodies left at CHUK has been going up, so Prime Life management decided to give them a hand to ease the burden.”
