Rwanda national women’s cricket team captain Mary Maina has revealed her side’s frustration at their mediocre performance at the just concluded Kwibuka women’s Twenty20 cricket tournament over the weekend.
The second edition of the annual competition attracted neighbours Uganda and Kenya with the three teams facing off twice on a round-robin basis. The hosts lost all four games and it is the manner in which they lost that has taunted Maina.
"We really lacked match fitness and this affected us. For we suffered five run outs in the last game against Uganda and more than ever showed us how much we have to work to get to the next level,” explained Maina in an interview with Times Sport.
Kenya were crowned champions in their debut appearance having defeated both Rwanda and Uganda on both occasions (four games) while the latter managed two wins against Rwanda.
Despite the dismal show, Rwanda’s Diane Bimenyimana was crowned the best bowler having picked eight wickets while Kenyan captain Sylvia Wairimu Kinyau was named woman of the series after picking 78 runs and picked nine wickets.
