Zone V volleyball champions Rwanda have been pooled alongside North African giants Algeria, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Ghana and Seychelles in Group B of the upcoming All Africa Games set for September 4-19 in Congo Brazzaville.
After the draws were released by Confederation of African Volleyball Board (CAVB) yesterday, Rwanda coach Paul Bitok said, "This is a very tough group for us because we have Algeria and Cameroon in there but our target will definitely be to make it in the top two teams so that we make it to the semi-finals.”
Bitok, who is wary of the challenge ahead, believes that it would help his side if they took part in the upcoming African Nations Championship set for July 21-30 in Cairo, Egypt.
"We have a chance to qualify but we have to start working now and if we can participate in the African Nations Championships it will be good but if we don’t, we’ll be out very fast because our opponents will be at a completely different level,” mentioned the Kenyan trainer.
Rwanda defeated Cameroon 3-1 in last year’s World Championship qualifiers but the Central Africans went on to qualify for the global competition and participation at the world level saw Cameroon step up their level in fact, defeating Rwanda 3-0, 3-2 and 3-2 in a three-game friendly series ahead of the 2015 Zone V All Africa Games qualifiers in March.
Hosts Congo have been pooled in Group A alongside Botswana, The Gambia, Egypt, Nigeria and Mozambique.
